Winch Design was invited to transform the Kuredhi Residence, a secluded beachfront four-bedroom residence at the exclusive Velaa Private Island in the Maldives. The brief was to elevate the existing space into a refined island retreat - one that blends modern sophistication with the barefoot elegance that defines Velaa.
Nestled within lush tropical greenery and set directly on a pristine stretch of ivory-white beach, the residence is both private and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. The redesign celebrates this balance, with an emphasis on organic textures, soft oceanic tones, and an effortless flow between indoor and outdoor living.
A palette of natural woods, patinated metals, shell-inspired textured lacquers, and seaweed-like woven raffia brings a grounded, tactile quality to the interiors. Distinguished furnishings, including a Minotti Hamilton sofa and Soave lounges by Piegatto, anchor the main living spaces, while curated artworks add moments of calm - from Linda Bird’s sculptural works to textile wall sculptures by Anne Kyyrö Quinn.
Floor-to-ceiling glass windows and soaring beamed ceilings invite in natural light and sea views, creating a continuous dialogue between architecture and landscape. Outside, the design extends to a private infinity pool, hot tub cabana, and open-air dining area - all carefully crafted to offer comfort, intimacy, and barefoot luxury.
