Winch Design away day at Kingston University

On Thursday 15th June, the Winch Design team gathered at Kingston University for the bi-annual company away day.

The Town House building at Kingston University was chosen as a location for the event due to its interesting architectural qualities. The contemporary exterior is a series of concrete loggias - outdoor corridors or galleries with covered roofs and outer walls that open to the elements. Inside, polished concrete flooring contrasts with wooden stairs leading to open plan mezzanines. Large windows flood the building with natural light and from the roof terrace there are stunning views over the town. In 2021, the building won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize, confirming it as Britain's best new building. The building was also named the winner of the 2022 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, recognised as the highest accolade in European architecture. Town House is one of only three UK projects ever to have won the prestigious European Union prize.

The inspirational space provided the perfect location to bring the Winch Design team together for an update from the trustee board, an overview of ongoing projects and to discuss future plans. As an employee owned business, the away days are a brilliant opportunity for Winch employees to ask the trustee and operating board questions. The day concluded with a team building exercise, involving tasks and challenges in the form of a spy themed scavenger hunt.
