Winch Design is deeply committed to supporting charities that align with the team’s values, building strong, lasting partnerships through dynamic fundraising efforts. We believe in active, creative fundraising, rather than anonymous giving. In the past our charity ventures have involved everything from cross-country skiing and Arctic dogsledding to skydiving and cycling across Europe. 

BLUE MARINE FOUNDATION
 

Our planet is made of 72% water and currently only 4% of it is under protection. The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) provides innovative solutions to over-fishing and enables the creation of marine reserves so that conservation of our oceans can happen fast and effectively. BLUE is aiming to have 30% of our world’s oceans protected by 2030. They stand out by being well connected and determined – seizing opportunities when they arise and forging new partnerships to challenge the status quo.

THE ROOFTOP ROW OFF 2025

In June 2025, Winch Design collaborated with Technogym to host the first ever Rooftop Row Off event. The event brought the industry together for an afternoon and evening of wellness, friendly competition and new connections. The row off consisted of eight teams competing in pairs across 2000m heats and a 350m sprint final using state-of-the-art Technogym rowing machines. The event raised £1,500 for the Blue Marine Foundation.

THE SOLENT WAVE 2025

Eight Winch riders embarked on an iconic ride from Somerset House to the Solent as part of the 2025 Solent Wave event, raising £9,000 for the Blue Marine Foundation, championing their crucial mission to safeguard our oceans around the globe.

LONDON TO SOLENT 2024

Six Winch Design cyclists took part in the 2024 London to Solent ride, joining 35 riders on the 120km journey, starting at our new studio and finishing in the beautiful Chichester Harbour, home to Blue Marine’s Solent Oyster Restoration Project. The event raised over £100,000 to support two of BLUE’s long-standing projects in Lyme Bay and the Maldives, focused on sustainable fishing and conservation. 

LONDON TO MONACO 2023

The 2023 London to Monaco route took riders on a 1100km adventure through seven different countries over eight days. 12 Winch Design riders took part, and the event raised over £150,000 for Blue Marine’s ocean conservation projects.

LONDON TO MONACO 2022

£250,000 was raised during the 2022 London to Monaco ride, a 1000km journey across four different countries, of which 15 Winch Design cyclists took part. The money raised went towards supporting six of Blue Marine’s projects in the Maldives, Namibia, Mozambique, the Solent, Lyme Bay and Jersey. 

LONDON TO MONACO 2019

12 Winch cyclists took part in the 2019 London to Monaco ride, taking on 900km across eight days and three different countries. The ride raised £680,000 to support five of BLUE’s projects across the Maldives, Cyprus, Patagonia, Azerbaijan, and Namibia.

LONDON TO MONACO 2018

The 2018 London to Monaco ride covered eight countries in six days, travelling from the UK to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy before finishing in Monaco. 13 Winch riders took part, and the ride raised £260,000 for BLUE’s projects in Ascension, St Helena and Lyme Bay. 

LONDON TO MONACO 2017

10 Winch riders took part in the 2017 London to Monaco bike ride, covering 1,400km and an elevation of 19,000m across three different countries. The ride raised a total of £290,000 to support BLUE’s vital ocean conservation work.

LONDON TO MONACO 2016

In partnership with Blue Marine, Winch Design founded the inaugural London to Monaco bike ride in 2016. No one could have predicted how successful the event would be, raising a staggering £250,000 to support BLUE’s projects in the Aeolians and Ascension. 27 cyclists from Winch Design took part, cycling 1,500km over 10 days.

MAGGIE’S
 

Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Help is offered freely to anyone with any type of cancer, including advice from Cancer Support Specialists, Benefits Advisors, Nutritionists and Psychologists. Great architecture is vital to the care Maggie’s offers, and their warm and welcoming centres are designed by leading architecture studios to create uplifting places for cancer sufferers and their families and friends.

2025 100KM JURASSIC COAST CHALLENGE

25 members of the Winch Design team took on a gruelling 100km 2-day walk across undulating terrain, raising £22,000 for Maggies, the Blue Marine Foundation and TP Caring Spaces.

2024 TOUGH MUDDER

15 Winch Design team members battled a Tough Mudder course, taking on a number of challenging obstacles over a 5km course and raising £2,700 for Maggies.

2023 10-MILE LONDON NIGHT HIKE

Eight members of the Winch Design team took on the 10-mile London Night Hike, walking from West to East London to support the vital work of Maggie's.

2022 ROYAL PARKS HALF 

Eight of our team took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon, running 21.1km through the heart of London and four of the eight Royal Parks - Hyde Park, Green Park, St  James's Park and Kensington Gardens - raising an incredible £2,644 for Maggie's. 

ANNUAL GARDENING

The gardens at Maggie's Centres offer a moment of peace and calm for their visitors. Every year, the Winch team volunteer to maintain the flower beds, trees and terraces.

TP CARING SPACES
 

2024 marked the start of an exciting new partnership with TP Caring Spaces, an organisation that transforms community spaces to better serve vulnerable populations. Their mission aligns closely with our design philosophy, as they focus on revitalising spaces that serve the community, ranging from women’s refuges to homeless shelters and youth centres. 

SKYDIVE 2025

Eight brave team members jumped from 12,000 feet, reaching speeds of 125mph and raising an impressive £6,400 for T P Caring Spaces as a result of their fearless leap.

QUEEN ELIZABETH SCHOLARSHIP TRUST (QEST)

Since 2019, Winch Design has proudly supported the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST), a charity dedicated to preserving British craftsmanship through access to education opportunities and sustaining craftmanship skills. Our commitment is championed by Andrew Winch, a trustee on the QEST board and deeply passionate about enabling opportunities for upcoming artisans. The studio continues to grow a talented group of Winch QEST Scholars, whose work we are honoured to support.

Cathryn Shilling

Our current QEST scholar, Cathryn Shilling is a London-based glass artist whose distinctive sculptural works are celebrated for their innovative use of kiln formed and blown glass. Her signature ‘glass cloth’ pieces, created using Venetian cane techniques, explore light, texture and movement, transforming glass into dynamic, tactile forms.

OLIVER COOK

A self-taught stone carver, Oliver Cook creates modern, abstract sculptures and vessels using alabaster, a material known for its delicate, translucent qualities. Using traditional stone-carving techniques, his works explores the interplay of light, shadow and texture. He has recently expanded his practice into different materials, including casting bronze through workshops with Coles Casting.

Fung + Bedford

Fung + Bedford specialise in bespoke architectural origami paper installations for commercial and interior spaces. Made by hand with exquisite skill, and machine scored for ultimate precision, their work embodies both artistry and technical excellence. As well as being featured in our projects, a beautifully crafted, free-hanging custom designed origami structure hangs from the ceiling in our flagship meeting room in the studio.

Rob Walker

byUMBERTO is the studio of Rob Walker – an artist, artisan and educator. He continues to develop the studio by embracing multitude of craft techniques, including the rare and delicate art of Verre Eglomise, a beautiful traditional signwriting skill.

Nico Conti

Nico Conti’s innovative fusion of modern technology and traditional pottery has established an international reputation. His work was recently showcased in the solo exhibition Reflections on Porcelain at the Malta Society of Arts.

Max Bainbridge 

Based in Somerset, established contemporary artist and woodturner Max is inspired by the natural world. Co-founder of the studio practice Forest + Found, he explores traditional ways of working to produce contemporary sculptural objects. Entirely self-taught, the goal of Max’s work is to highlight the possibilities of woodturning.
