Anita Gradwohl is Group Director for Customer Relations & Sales within the New Business Unit for Aviation at F/LIST. F/LIST is a family-owned Austrian company specialising in the interior design and outfitting of business and private jets, superyachts, and luxury residences. Gradwohl began her career 18 years ago in 2005 as a dispatcher for Diamond Aircraft, an Austrian general aviation aircraft manufacturer. In 2006, she was promoted to Area Sales Manager for EMEA, Asia Pacific, overseeing fleet customers and Diamond dealers in the Asia Pacific region. In 2011, she joined F/LIST to develop their aviation division and over the past 12 years she has supported their growing success in the industry.
Why is it important to you to raise the importance of women in the aviation industry, and how do you find working in such a male-dominated industry?
Personally, working in a male-dominated industry has been a positive experience for me because of the incredible team members I've had the privilege to work with. Gender has not been a significant factor in working with a supportive team. However, I recognise the value of diversity and will always advocate for it, especially in the aviation industry. When I encounter women working in aviation, I feel a sense of inner celebration and seek to connect with like-minded female colleagues. I strongly believe that addressing the gender gap is critical for companies because diversity is the key to success. Numerous studies have shown that mixed management teams are more efficient than those dominated by one gender. It is essential to leverage the collective strengths and perspectives of all team members. Embracing diversity in the aviation industry and beyond is of paramount importance to me.
What do you love most about working in the aviation industry?
For me, the most remarkable aspect of working in the aviation industry is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. Before embarking on my career, I longed for a career that would allow me to explore the world, connect with diverse people, and have new and exciting experiences. Fortunately, the aviation industry has given me the privilege of living that dream and allowing me to truly love what I do. My aviation career has been a constant source of joy and fulfilment. I am deeply grateful for the incredible opportunities and experiences it has afforded me. It has allowed me to traverse this breath-taking planet, immerse myself in awe-inspiring places, and make connections with phenomenal people along the way.
What would your advice be to younger women trying to break into the aviation industry?
Just do it! Once you take the plunge, stay committed and don't give up. Approach your work with discipline, perseverance, and assertiveness. Believe in your abilities and fearlessly pursue what you know is right. Love what you do and maintain a sense of humour, find joy and passion in your chosen career. Cultivate a genuine love of aviation and let that enthusiasm drive you. And never forget to bring a sense of humour along for the ride.
